Bulloch County students shine at Special Olympics hosted by William James Middle School

Smiles, laughter, and school spirit filled the fields of William James Middle School on Friday, November 7, as students from across Bulloch County gathered for this year’s Fall Special Olympics, presented by AJIN Georgia.

The event celebrated inclusion, teamwork, and the accomplishments of children with special needs throughout the district, and AJIN Georgia’s support, part of its larger local charitable efforts, helped make this joyful day possible.

Students rotated through a variety of field-day-style events, including soccer kicks, tee-ball, target throwing, and a parachute activity that filled the school’s courtyard with waves of color.

Volunteers and teachers guided participants through each station, ensuring every student had a chance to take part and have fun.

The event focused on participation and encouragement rather than competition. Every goal scored, every base run, and every cheer from the sidelines reinforced the message of unity and joy that defines the Special Olympics experience.

This year’s event was powered by a strong team of local volunteers. Bulloch Academy and Statesboro High students served as buddies for participating athletes helping guide them through each activity, offering encouragement, and celebrating their success.

Faculty and staff from surrounding Bulloch County schools coordinated the event stations, while parents and community members filled the sidelines, cameras in hand, capturing the smiles and proud moments that made the day special.

The collaboration between volunteers and school staff highlighted how teamwork can create unforgettable experiences for students of all abilities.
