Brief Description

General Description:

The Assistant Safety Manager provides strategic leadership, functional guidance, and hands-on oversight to execute plant-wide health and safety programs. This role drives continuous safety improvement by developing policies, auditing operational practices, leading incident investigations, and building a proactive safety culture across all levels of manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Program Development & Operational Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS policies, procedures, and safety programs aligned with regulatory standards.
  • Integrate standardized safety protocols and training materials directly into operational work instructions.
  • Execute daily auditing processes to track leading and lagging indicators, using data to implement preventative actions.
  • Lead Residual Risk Reduction ( ) initiatives to systematically identify, mitigate, and eliminate workplace hazards.
  • Enforce safety compliance across the plant and escalate critical violations to senior leadership.

 

Incident Investigation, Response & Emergency Preparedness

  • Lead thorough accident, injury, and near-miss investigations, performing root-cause analysis to ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Direct the plant’s Emergency Preparedness procedures and oversee the training, readiness, and response capabilities of the First Responder Team.
  • Provide immediate first aid care when necessary and coordinate the medical transport of injured employees.

 

Regulatory Compliance, Metrics & Administration

  • Track, compile, and report critical safety metrics for site leadership, corporate stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
  • Partner with Human Resources to facilitate new-hire safety onboarding and manage worker’s compensation processes.
  • Source and manage external vendors for specialized safety training and technical equipment evaluations.
  • Approve requisitions for plant-wide safety supplies, medical equipment, and personal protective gear (PPE).

 

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Engineering, Applied Sciences, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive EHS management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Certifications: OSHA 10-Hour and 30-Hour certifications preferred; First Aid/CPR/AED certification required.

Organizational Relationships:

  • Direct Reporting: Reports directly to the Senior Safety Manager.
  • Internal Coordination: Maintains close cross-functional alignment with Senior Management, Middle Management, Operations Supervisors, Team Leaders, and Production Staff.
